Pianos and the Structure of their Keyboards
Tuesday, March 20th, 2012If you look at modern pianos, you will find that it has white keys as well as black keys. The number of white keys is 52 and the black ones are 36 in number. This make up a total of 88 keys. However, the older pianos have only 85 keys. Some manufacturers have higher number of keys in their instruments in order to provide sounds of a wider range.
There are also upright instruments with 65 keys that are called "gig pianos". These are taken from place to place when necessary to supplement music for gigs. They are constructed using special techniques to make them lighter in weight.
Many experiments have been conducted over the years to increase the number of keys to provide sounds of a wider range. Also there are some toys that are made to look like actual instruments. Really these are made using the same techniques and they have only 44 keys or 49 of them.
